The tackler will walk off 3 steps and turn to face the ball carrier who will be facing sideways to show the tackler their profile. Have the tackler start in a pre-contact position with eyes at ball level. On the coach’s command the tackler will approach the ball carrier while focusing on their landmark. Once the tackler is close enough to step on the ball carrier’s feet they slip past the ball carrier and perform a hit up on air and double time the knees.

The ball carrier and tackler should be facing each other with approximately 10 yards between them. On the coach’s command the tackler will jog towards the ball carrier. Once the tackler reaches the recognition area they will sink their hips. Once the tackler is close enough to step on the ball carrier’s toes he will perform a strike on the hand shield.

On the coach’s command the ball carrier will run horizontally away from the tackler holding an outstretched hand shield. The tackler will track the near hip landmark. When the tackler reaches the recognition area they will sink their hips, get their eyes at ball level and execute a strike on the bag.

The ball carrier will be placed approximately 1 yard away from the crash mat or long bags with the tackle approximately 2-3 yards away and one yard back from the ball carrier. On the coach’s command the ball carrier will jog and the tackler will track the near hip and strike the ball carrier once they are close enough to stop on their toes.
